Double-D: Amatuer Writer

Rejection

I received a rejection this morning from a publication that I really respected. While it still stings whenever I get those messages, at least this one was a lengthy personal message from the editor. The main idea of her response was that she wasn’t sure how to read and feel about my poems.

I get that sometimes. Death, sex, violence and blood are recurring themes in some of my poetry. It hurts that she didn’t get it but I understand. I am grateful that she took the time to respond to my poetry in a personal manner and encourage me to keep writing.

A rejection means that I am submitting. Submitting means that I am trying to get published. At least I am on the right track.
